Twentiethh Sunday after Pentecost

This morning's altar flowers are donated by the Johnson family to the Glory of God in honor of We Connect (Sierra Leone).

This morning we welcome Avery Kathryn Begin into our Christian family through the sacrament of Baptism. We offer congratulations and our prayerful support to her parents Patrick and Melissa Begin and her godparents Danielle Guss and Robert DeRanieri.

Pastor Arden, his daughter Chloe, and Heather Cooper completed the Harry Chapin Run For Hunger 10K charity run last Sunday. If you sponsored them, please make your contribution for fighting hunger now. Surf to www.runagainsthunger.com and click on Donate and the Sponsor a Team button. You can find our church team name and click on it to make your contribution online. Alternatively, you can give Pastor a check made out to Run Against Hunger.

Bible Study: For many people, the Bible as a whole can be intimidating. That's why it's helpful to have a guide. We are holding Saturday night bible studies at 7 pm starting on November 4. Join us! Expect an engaging and thought provoking evening, with stories, life applications, and your ideas as well. We will focus on the later chapters of the Gospel of Matthew, unlocking Jesus' parables. Pastor brings a wide variety of life experiences that illustrate the journey of faith with which we can identify. The studies are scheduled for November 4, 11, 25. Bring a friend!

The annual Our Saviour Oktoberfest is set for next Sunday, October 27 at 5:00 pm. Brats, apple cake, beer, German music, and good company are guaranteed for all. The price is $18 for adults and $9 for children. Please sign up today on the sheet on the link table.

All articles for the November newsletter must be submitted to the church office no later than this coming Thursday, October 26.

Frya is currently putting together school kits for Lutheran World Relief. Any donations of money to purchase the items for these kits would be greatly appreciated. Please speak with Frya for more information.

Christian Crafters are back on the calendar! They meet on Tuesday mornings at 10 am in the Parish Hall. Starting this Monday, October 16, there will be a second crafting session on Monday nights at 7 pm. Christmas Fair items are on the agenda. Speak with Lois Leonard for more information.

Our annual Christmas fair is on the calendar for Saturday, December 2 from 9 am to 3 pm. We are looking for vendors who might be interested in selling their items at our Fair for $50 per table. We are also looking for nice "boutique" items for our tag sale.

The Church Council meets at 11:30 this morning.

Frya is looking for a volunteer to sort through the items that are left in the counting room from the remodeling of the bathroom. We are also looking for a file cabinet. Please let Frya know if you can help.

REFORMATION 500: 2017 is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. As part of this anniversary, Pastor Arden has been asked to participate in a panel discussing the Reformation and its legacy. This special event will happen on the evening of Saturday, October 28. A documentary will be shown at 7 pm and the panel will respond from 8:00 to approximately 8:30. The venue is Community Bible Church of Northern Westchester, at 301 Chadeayne Road, in Ossining. You're invited!

The Church of the Holy Name of Mary and Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran Church are happy to invite you to a service to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. This ecumenical service of prayer and song will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 7:30 pm at the Church of the Holy Name of Mary, located on Grand Street in Croton-on-Hudson. In the spirit of peace, we look forward to celebrating Reformation 500 with you and to seeing in this event the fruit of widespread and longstanding ecumenical conversations. For all of us, celebrating this year together with the Lord Jesus will remind us of the generous gifts of the Spirit of God among us, including a shared spirit of listening to and learning from each other. Following the service, there will be a reception and fellowship. We warmly welcome everyone to this joyful celebration of faith in the Lord Jesus.

Holy Lands Presentation: We are truly pleased to welcome Rev. Dr. Tim Kennedy to join us for a fascinating presentation on Sunday November 5 after worship during our fellowship time. Pastor Kennedy has made it his lifelong passion to understand the middle east in depth, having made over thirty trips to Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon. Here is our chance to deepen our understanding of the Bible, its characters, land, cultures and the context in which Jesus moved and preached. Some of us have visited Israel and know how it affected our faith. This presentation will help us to better relate to the stories in the Bible, and better understand the apostles' struggles in spreading the gospel. It makes a difference when you hear about the Holy Land from someone you trust spiritually. Rev. Kennedy was a pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Yorktown for many years and still lives in the area. Pastor Tim will also share some of his best images and answer our questions.
