Sixth Sunday after Epiphany

This morning's altar flowers are given to the Glory of God by Marilyn Grantner to the Glory of God.

The Book Club meets tomorrow, February 17 at 7:00 pm. The book this month is The Unwinding of a Miracle, a book about living a full life.

Shrove Tuesday Syrup and Service: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 25 at 6:00 pm to celebrate the last day before Lent with a good old-fashioned pancake supper! These "Tuesday before Lent" celebrations go back centuries and are a day of feasting before we begin a period of fasting. Plans for our annual pancake supper are under way with a new twist. You may remember that last fall we collected items like towels, soap, and toothbrushes for 48 health care kits to be sent to Lutheran World Relief. These kits are distributed around the world by LWR to refugees and others in need. After we finish our pancakes, we will assemble the health care kits. Everyone can do this, from the very young to the not so young! Please join us on February 25 for pancakes and an act of generosity. Please add your name to the sign-up sheet in the link to indicate what you will bring for the pancake supper.

Our Ash Wednesday service with imposition of ashes is at 7:00 pm on February 26.

The Church Council meets this morning following the worship service.

All articles for the March-April newsletter are due no later than February 24.

Donations needed for property maintenance: In December an old cast iron pipe cracked and needed replacement at a cost of $812. This unexpected expense depleted our Property Maintenance Fund, which also covers lawn care, snow removal and any other repair and maintenance issue incurred by the church. If you are able, please consider an additional contribution for property maintenance. Make your check to Our Saviour and indicate "Property Maintenance" in the memo line.

Amazon Smile: We are now an official Amazon Smile charity. If you have an Amazon account, kindly consider making Our Saviour the charity of choice. For every dollar you spend on Amazon, the church will receive 0.5%. Use this link to find our church and select it as your charity of choice:

The 2020 hospitality sign-up sheet is on the link table. Please consider signing up to host one or two coffee hours during the next 6 months.

The Croton Food Pantry has been feeding those in need in this community for many years. Our Saviour has always participated in this ministry. If we could all make an effort to bring one non-perishable item on Sundays, our box in the back of the church would fill quickly. This is a wonderful way to reach out to our neighbors in need.

This congregation supports Lutheran World Relief (LWR), an international organization that focuses on sustainable development projects and disaster relief and recovery.

LWR was founded in 1945 by Lutherans in the U.S. who responded to the refugee crisis in post-World War II Europe by sending food, clothing and quilts. At that time, an estimated one-fifth of the world's Lutherans were homeless. By the end of the decade, LWR was also sending relief aid to those affected by conflicts in Palestine, Hong Kong, Korea and Bangladesh.

In the 1960s and 1970s, LWR focused on helping farmers increase their income and food production in the developing world. In 1979, LWR opened its first regional office in Peru.

In the 1980s, famine in Africa made international headlines, especially the plight of people in Ethiopia. In response, LWR shipped 5,000 tons of wheat to northern Ethiopia and also opened a regional office in West Africa. For its work in responding to the Ethiopian Civil War and famine, LWR became the first faith-based development agency to receive the Presidential End Hunger award.

Since 2000, LWR has increased its emphasis on sustainable agriculture and climate adaptation while continuing to respond to major natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the world.

One of LWR's flagship programs - started in 1945 and continuing today - is its Quilt & Kit Ministry. Each year, Lutherans across the United States assemble and donate LWR Mission Quilts, as well as several kinds of care kits to assist people living in poverty in times of emergency or great need.

Today, LWR helps communities living in extreme poverty adapt to the challenges that threaten their livelihood and well-being, and responds to emergencies with a long-term view.
